I used to get thuringer all of the time and I'm not sure when it went away so I just googled it and found out that it's the same as summer sausage, only difference is in the diameter of the two, summer sausage has a diameter of 2" across and thuringer was around 3-4" across.

I'm pretty sure that the deli in one of my grocery stores does sell 4" slices of thuringer but they call it summer sausage.

I normally buy a foot long tube of summer sausage once a month, great in sandwiches and on crackers.
