Peugeot 207 1.6 HDi 2007 - Running on 3 cylinders but no fault code #

Year of Manufacture *: 2007
Engine Size and Code *: 1.6hdi

this is a strange one for me the engine is misfiring and slightly shaking it feels like it's running on 3 cylinders but how can that be? the engine light is off and there are no fault codes. in the live data it says no fault with the injectors or the timing. the car has just come in and i only had time for a quick scan.

these are well known for injector issues

the ECU will only record fault codes if it effects an electronic signal it reads or relies upon

the injector may be electronically sound but mechanically faulty.

the easiest way to check if you can is to swap injectors around to test the failed injector theory

thanks antony i have just done a relative compression check and all cylinders are equal so it could be one of the injectors but how do you find which one it is? there are no fault codes and in live data all works well i will get my scope out and see if i can find anything

no luck with the scope current and voltage looks the same on all four does anyone have a good injector waveform? the car had to go for now would a leak back test show anything? if yes anyone knows how it should be done properly?
the car starts well it does't smoke and the dpf is clean it just runs on 3 cylinders

The car came back and I did a leak off test on idle for five minutes and I got 1 7.5ml 2 6.5ml. 3 9.5ml 4 8.5ml so it looks like number three is the worst one but can that cause the engine to run on three cylinders?

I've had a few that have had EGR/DPF deleted in the software and in the process have not just programmed the relevant fault codes out but whole groups like injectors, NCT etc... So faulty injector without fault code can then be a possibility.
Have a look at DPF related sensors in live data. Disconnect a DPF related sensor. If no fault code appears, it might be easiest to blow in original software to determine the problems.

I have had a similar issue with a Hyundai a while back, no codes but running on 3, my prefered method if possible is to remove one injector at a time and connect them back up outside of the engine using the car as a test bench, this way you can see if they are spraying, my Hyundai had a sized injector, electrically on a scope it looked fine,

Thanks you all for your comments I have had more time with the car and checked things over in more details first of all it does not run on 3 cylinders I have made sure of that after finding out that the injectors are of the solenoid type so it was safe to disconnect while running one after another and they all seem to work so no dead cylinder still the engine on idle shakes a little and when I increase the revs it feels like it has a burned valve and when moving from with first gear the whole car shakes and feels underpowered so it misfiring at low revs at high revs it is not notisable as I said it starts well no smoke no noises no fault codes and live data looks good and compares well with previous data I have saved as this car is in the family and have saved all it’s data for 7 years

could be a knackered dual mass flywheel, a seized one of these will make the car sound terrible, had one on a 1600 focus hdi , the same engine as yours, thought it was about to blow up, the customer drove it for another year like it,,

This one is not noisey but a little shakey on idle and misfiring as the revs increase axactly as if it has a partly burned valve I may decide to remove the glow plugs to do a proper compression test

this car is still the same i have done a proper compression test and all the cylinders are at 400 bar after comparing live data i had saved 5 years ago the egr position on idle was 57% and at 3180 rpm it was 0% and now it is at 90% on idle and at 3084 rpm 20% as i had everything out to do the compression test i also removed the egr which it looked quite clean and after i activated it worked well so just to be sure i started the engine with the egr off and it was the same so it can't be the egr but why does it now have such high values?

hi everyone this one is fixed now as i could't find anything else wrong with it i removed the gearbox and what a nightmare of a job it was i had to remove the bumper the headlights the radiator and the dpf. once i removed all of that and was able to remove the clutch and the dmf i could see where the vibrations were coming from the dmf had too much play in it. i fitted a new kit and everything is back to normal now. thanks everyone for your help
