All VAG #

Year of Manufacture *: 2009 plus
Engine Size and Code *: 1600 and 2000cc
( Optional ) ECU Type: CRD
( Optional ) Scanner Used: does not matter
( Optional) Fault Codes: does not matter

So

What is going to happen when all these DPF and EGR deleted NOX child killing vags hit the dealerships, will VAG say if they see remaps that delete DPF and EGR do not type conform, does that make these cars scrap, what happens to in dependants who have deleted DPF and EGR??, plenty of those around, these are now the motors that are being recalled,going to be interesting !

I'm not really following what's happened or happening but if you've had your egr and dpf deleted I would think the last thing you'd do is take it back for a dealer recal to sort out an emission related fault.

To me it seems pointless considering you've completely done a way with what is meant to be controlling emission output in the 1st place.

So if you knowingly have done this and take it in for the recall software update and what else it requires your asking for troubleand I'm sure VAG woukd maybe have some sort of get out clause.

As for those who have bought cars genuinely not knowing what could of happened previously god only knows the outcome.

Just my opinion.

Exactly Lee,

So assume you are a re-mapper who last month re-wrote a map on a VAG motor, after bashing hell out of the DPF to make it a clear path for exhaust gas , and writing out EGR, you get a letter from VW saying that motor has been identified as a "cheat" car, it has to come in to be re-worked, whatever that means, they give your a DPF a tap with a metallic object and get a ringing tone back, that means your DPF has no monolith, all bets off ,VW refuse to touch your motor and also report you to DVSA for construction and use violations, where do you go from there ??

All the affected vehicles will get a recall notice but as this is not a safety related issue, it will not be compulsory, owners do not have to get the work done

I would image the majority of owners will not take them in if there is the slightest chance of a performance loss or lower mpg (or your expensive sporty map being overwritten)

Same as in the USA, in California you probably won't be able to drive your vehicle is you do not have the recall done, but the majority of the states in the USA do not even have an emission test for diesels

.....so why bother?

I cannot envisage a diesel emission test for the MOT ever being that good in the foreseeable future to weed out the ones that did not have the recall

Just plenty of very cheap VAG diesels around in the next couple of years

I have posted this elsewhere, VW headquarters been raided by German police tonight, as have their software programmers home addresses, as I see it, any VAG group car that is running this software to mask a hardware issue is going to be in court very soon, if DVSA are watching the internet, watch out UK re mappers !!!!

Police in Madrid raided a number of DPF modification workshops this week & arrested a few techs for their involvement.

Authorities have to be seen to be doing something proactive now everyone is so shocked & stunned that a company started by Adolf Hitler could possibly have loose morals.

Technically Adolf created the first emissions scandal with his Belsen Bedfords, so VW are just following on with a more widespread practice of gassing everyone on the planet.

It must be in the German constitution??

It's all getting quite entertaining, a lot of hype over something everyone knew was commonplace.

This was news in the mid 80's (USA) as Honda developed a Lean Burn engine that did not require a CAT.

Unfortunataly VW and others could not match the technology and the idea was vetoed forcing all car makers to use the sock in a pipe approach to control emissions.

It appears even today they are struggling to keep pace without cheating.

Perhaps they would like to borrow my 98 Honda Civic (108.000mls) that still emits no CO and very little HC (2-5%).
