VW Passat 1.9 TDi AWX - Misfire & no comms - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2003
Engine Size and Code *: 1.9 tdi AWX
( Optional ) Scanner Used: SOLUS PRO

customer brought this car in with traction control light on and lack of power
when i connected the solus pro no power up occured on the pro,which is unusal; i powered it up and entered the details
the scanner then came up with vehicle power not detected unable to scan
im thinking wiring harness to injector fault but would like some kind of confirmation from the ecu
so
is it normal for the lack of comms if the harness fails
is there some other likely fault to cause lack of comms
also there is a plastic box with wires going into it on the passenger footwell when i asked the owner about this he said another garage told him to leave it there to prevent water going into it and causing starting issues...new one on me but there you go thanks

Hi Patrick. Might be stating the obvious but have you checked the power and earths to 16 pin plug.

Sorry I can't remember if the soluspro powered up as soon as you connected it to the diag plug but i think it did. So in this case as its not doing so ( my modis had an led to say it got power from the dlc) then I'd say your 1st check is to make surey ou have a 12v feed and earth at the diagnostic plug.

If all is correct try comms with another tool if available to you or at least try to scan another module.

A blown fuse is my guess as it could be on the same fuse as the cigar lighter socket. I've had a few cars where the owner has all cigar lighter operated gadgets cause blown fuses pkus they don't seem very good fitment these days.

As above,
Fuse 12 10A should be the supply to the diagnostic socket.

Why do you think the fault is due to an injector harness issue? If the injector harness fails it doesn't stop the scanner powering up / accessing other modules.

thanks everyone it was indeed the fuse for the dlc
scanned ok and came up with intermittent misfire cyl 1 so think it is loom fault got one now so hopefully fixed will be posted soon
