Fiat 500 1248cc 2008 - Engine lost compression #

Year of Manufacture *: 2008
Engine Size and Code *: 1248

This Fiat has arrived as a non runner.
on Cranking it sounds like it is down on at least one compression.
The customer reported the engine revved up of its on accord and stayed running with the key out ontil after several minutes cutting out.

The oil level is quite a bit overfull.
The customer claims he has not added oil since it was serviced, over a year ago.

Is there any way this high oil level could be diesel from regenerations ? The car has only done 16000 miles

Hi Glen
I would be getting the oil analysed for fuel content first off, could be some claim on the Manufacturer so prepare yourself properly. Delphi are able to test the oil but I would use one other oil lab for your sample testing as well as I don't think Delphi can produce the type of printed report you will require.

Preciscely the reason I have not taken anything apart for any testing.
The problem is, it is now 4 years old so I'm guessing Fiat wont be interested
Scared the life out of the poor lady when it went off
I am doing a bit of research on the matter before I contact Fiat on her behalf

EDIT
sopke to Fiat, they have never heard of oil getting topped up by diesel and as such if the oil level is overfull it is pilot error and would not be covered even if it was still under warranty

propably dpf been trying regeneration thats why raised oil level and then ... blown the engine

Hi Glen,
HP pump front seal dribbling fuel into timing case? As Ed suggest get the oil tested, Fiat UK's response what a surprise!

To be fair I'm not sure where an oil test will get you. I haven't read the owners manual for the 500 but I'd be pretty sure there will be something in there saying "check your levels once a week/month etc". We all know the diesel contamination is a given on DPF vehicles and it doesn't happen overnight so I imagine Fiat will escape liability very easily.

The customer has given up any hope of a result with Fiat and wants me to fit an engine.
I will be having the DPF removed before he gets it back
