Ford Focus P1213 Cold start injector - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2005
Engine Size and Code *: 2.0L Duratorq-TDCi (136PS) - DW10
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Autodiagnos

Have the above vehicle that only starts occasionally and will only run for approx 10 seconds before cutting out

Fault codes that were there when first inspected was:
P1213 Cold start injector #1

P1213 Cold start injector #1

P0605 Powertrain Control Module Read
Only Memory (ROM) Error

P060C Internal control module main
processor performance

P0380 Glow Plug/Heater Circuit "A"

Fault codes that will not clear are:
P1213 Cold start injector #1

P1213 Cold start injector #1

Fault Code that return is:
P0605 Powertrain Control Module Read
Only Memory (ROM) Error

Not sure if this code could mean ECU Fault or may of been remaped at some stage

the vehicle has been around many garages and has been parked for over a year

Remember reading somewhere that a faulty injector can give a code p1213 and cause a non start but cant seem to find the info now

Unable to check resistance of injectors as they are the Piezo type

Has anyone had anything similar and could advise a direction of either ECU Test or Injector Test first

Is it possible for these injectors to short internally like those fitted to various vag models.

Check continuity between each injector pin to body of injector. Probably a different design but just a suggestion.

If you unplug injector 1 does it run, not even sure what the fault code means to be truthful.

Hello Lee

Thanks for the tips with checking resistance between body and injector pin I will test injector resistance on return

Did try to run the engine with Injector 1 disconnected but it still cut out

Not sure why the call it Cold start injector?

Fault Code that return is:
P0605 Powertrain Control Module Read
Only Memory (ROM) Error.

Terry the last time I had that fault code, I had to re-flash the ECM with the latest software after that the code disappeared. You sometimes get this fault with performance flashes. (Has it Had One)

You say the injectors are piezo type what make are they.
Also P1213 I have as injector Pressure not at expected level.

Had a chance to re visit the Focus with Ford IDS today, same codes stored with similar descriptions.

Was unable to locate any short with injectors or circuit so decided to look up the software version installed in the PCM

IDS listed there was a fix for invalid DTCs

Re-programmed the PCM with the latest Software and was then able to clear all codes from PCM

Vehicle then started on the button and run Sweet with no returning codes

Can’t believe that this is a permanent fix,
as one of the many garages this vehicle visited last year was a Ford main dealer that told the customer it was a faulty ECU

Need to do more road testing...

Will let you Know how i get on

Glad you got it sorted Terry. This is just one of many you will see these days. Techs could spend days looking for a fault that's not there.
