Nissan Primera 2.0 DCi 2007 - Non start after head removal and new chain - Unresolved #

Year of Manufacture *: 2007
Engine Size and Code *: 2.0 ltr DCi
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Carmon scan
( Optional) Fault Codes: Timing Fault

Nissan Primastar 2007 2.0 Diesel DCi broke rocker arms, removed head & no bent valves, rocker arms broken. Fitted new set of rocker arms. Fitted timing chain as instructed by Nissan. Tried to start and timing light comes on. Car starts with easy start but with lack of power, no smoke, suspect camshaft gear/ keyway, fitted new gear, keyway ok, removed timing chain again & refitted, still the same. Checked injectors, OK

Any ideas?

Hi John,
Have you been in with a diagnostic tool of any sort? If so what codes are present and what live data do you have available?

Owner started car on a hill, gearbox in reverse, a bag of bolts.Head removed, new valves & rocker arms fitted. Will not start without easy start,Light on dash, Check fault codes with 'snap on solus' 1 fault P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor. Clear fault,ok, try to start, light on, have tried camshaft & crankshaft sensor from running car, still same.

Hi John,
Has this got variable valve timing of any sort?
If you can get it going on sniff check to see if you have a flag in live data to tell you if cam/crank sync is ok.
As I see it either the valve timing is still out, the VVT system needs resetting or you inadvertently damaged cam sensor or VVT solenoid wiring (check for appropriate supplies etc.)
Failing that its out with the 'scope and check cam/crank correlation, sorry I don't have any specific data for this car.

Sorry about the delay in reporting a fix but i haven't solved the problem, I've closed the garage instead, I had 3 mechanics that knew everything and kept fitting expensive parts that didn't fix the problem, which i had to pay for, i was also taking the problems home with me and had enough. Thanks everyone for the help over the years much appreciated.
