Renault Laguna 2.2 DCi 2005 - Non starter #

Year of Manufacture *: 2005
Engine Size and Code *: 2200cc
( Optional ) ECU Type: bosch edc15 c3
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Launch x431
( Optional) Fault Codes: too many to list ,someone been at it before

Non starter suspect ecu ? some advice on anyone with same problem before ? only getting 2.5 volt supply to crank sensor and poor earth ,tested wiring and found all good carried out scope test on crank sensor at ecu and not getting correct trace/tested cam sensor and found to be ok ,also using launch scanner and noticed that there is a facility to copy and write ecu code on the configurations page,has any one used this before and was it successful ,would it copy and write to a second hand ecu ?
any advice would be appreciated

ps also no rpm on rev counter or scanner under cranking on starter ?

don't you think it is a bit too fast? What tests you carried out? What fault codes? What parameters? Do you think someone will tell you 'YES GO ON CHANGE AN ECU AND RECODE IT BY LAUNCH'. Sorry mate but this is not the way to do.

Thank you for your advice

not really the answer I was looking for,just a simple yes you can code an ecu with a launch or no you can't would have been a nice answer. yes or no we had the same problem with one showing 2.5 volts coming out crankshaft signal wire and it turned out to be ecu
I thought this was a discussion site where people helped each other not poked fun or tried to belittle them ?
I was taught that if you have nothing constructive to say keep it to yourself as it just offends people

seems to be a lot of this goes on here, not everybody is at the same stage as others in diagnostics or has the same equipment as others or has the information at hand others do. We take on jobs just like everyone else (in good faith)not knowing what might be wrong until we start to investigate,really don't understand why you bothered to reply ?

Are you sure this isn't an inductive sensor with a shield wire? Should be AC volts when testing between 2 wires and 3rd wire shield-earth?

of course I wanted to answer because you can't ask for ecu programing on the beggining of the diagnostics process. As Tony said it could be passive sensor and the problem is somewhere else. I really would like to help you but if I would say YES you can reprogram the ecu you would go for the second hand and then (would code it or not I don't know the abilities of the launch)would be still in the same position. So post us more details and then we try to help you.

Hi Mark

Unfortunately you have encountered the kind of response that lots of newcomers to UKAT will experience. It is hard to stomach I am sure, when you are replied to like a petulant child, but you do have to understand that there is a level of professionalism that is expected here.

I think it is safe to say that some posts are "frowned upon" when they demonstrate that the request for help is from someone who is clearly out of their depth & potentially wasting their customers time & money. It reflects on us all after all!

Could you not clear down the fault memory & start from a clean slate?

Are you seeing a good cam/crank “sync” in live data?

Also, I don't think anyone who is serious about this job, would place any faith in Launch being able to copy & paste from one ECU to another.

Clutching at straws & asking for trouble, are two phrases that spring to mind.

Can you post some waveforms for opinion?

Is this the one where the ecu sits underneath the battery? If so, have a good look at the loom/multiplugs. I had one that was so far gone I cut off the front of the ecu and soldered the loom direct to the circuit board. Saved writing off the car and still going three years later.

Thanks to all for getting back,been in touch with a friend at Renault says this is a fault with them no rpm signal in ecu so pump not coming in,ecu removed and sent for checking/repairs

still would like to know if the launch is capable of reprogramming another ecu ? as anyone with a launch will know instruction manual is a joke but they still put out updates all the time with no information on how to use, would be quite apprehensive to try with new ecu in case it goes belly up.

Surly this could have been confirmed by looking in live data? with no need to send the ECU away.

If the Passive sensor is working,(which can be tested with a scope at the ECU plug)then there should be an RPM reading in live data when you crank the vehicle.

If it was the ECU at fault it would still have to go for repair perhaps, but you would have known the result and would not be relying on an outside company to tell you a load of crap (regarding the condition of the ECU)

Just my thoughts?

Does Dave Mc agree that Launch is overstating its capabilities too?

I haven't been on one of Dave's Launch courses either. But I trust his opinion. (I think anyway

I not sure i would trust launch to be able to do it, but Dave Mc,s course,s are good and it did surprise me what the launch can do !!

Mark could learn a lot.
