KIA Sedona 2.9 2005 - Fuel leak around injectors - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2005
Engine Size and Code *: 2.9

We've been asked to give a second opinion on this vehicle, the problem is quite a major leak of clean diesel from around the injectors. The dealers have fitted (supposedly) new injectors and pipes but the leak is still there, they are saying it needs a new head! The problem is that it doesn't leak until you drive it at speed so no leaks are apparent in the workshop, I can't see how the head would be faulty as there are no fuel gallery's in it!
Anyone had the same problem?

we had one that leaked from the injector body under the the fuel pipe we could only put it down to a cracked casting
a new injector cured it
wrap some rag around injector bodies take for a drive seee if body or bodies are leaking HTH

I use crack detection spray to diagnose alot of leaks from both fuel, coolant and oil systems. It can help pin point the location of a leak even if it is very minor, i think its called ROCOL Flawfinder crack detection spray, its not cheap but its worth every penny.

Hi Mark

Can you narrow the leak down to a single injector (or cylinder?)

The dealer is talking crap, as there are no fuel passages internal to the head.

This is a Delphi system that resembles closely the one fitted to the majority of the 2.0 & 2.2 litre TDCi Mk III Modeo's. If you unplug the IMV & injectors, then crank it for no more than ten seconds, you will drive the system to full pressure & this will likely expose the offending injector. It maybe that it will only leak when hot though. It should be mentioned that it won't achieve maximum possible pressure when cranking, due to the limited pump speed. It should be enough to expose the leak I would have thought.

I would like to hear the dealer guys reasoning behind the condeming of the head. I reckon there would be some serious squirming & bullshit rummaging going on!

Finally got around to removing the injectors, had them tested and found one was fractured which was replaced, and two others needed repair. The owner is off to his KIA dealer to put a flee in their ear, they est two grand for new head

!
