Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi 2005 - Non start, code P1000 - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2005
Engine Size and Code *: 2.0 Tdci
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Snapon
( Optional) Fault Codes: only code P1000 manafacture specific

fault customer drove home, following morning wouldnt start (also when driving engine would sometimes cut out if he turned ignition off and restarted all was fine till next time) yesterday started on easy start and ran for a few minutes turned off wont start again, blocked egr and tried again no go
connected snappy, no fault codes, scanned crank cam and injectors all looked good, fuel rail pressure 400kpa ignition on, just done a conversion 4600kpa engine turning over am i right in assuming 30,000 kpa is 300 bar so i have low fuel rail pressure and as the engine is only tuning over it wll not register a fault code as its still thinks its bulding pressure
have checked low pressure side of pump and draws up to 0.5 bar

Surely snap-on must give P1000 a discription, even if it did not you must know its meaning.
Have you scoped the cam sensor ?
30,000 kilopascal is 300 bar which should be OK for a start.

hi have you checked the egr valve to see if its stuck open look in live data if the valve has a position sensor and activate it with mytivac and watch the position sensor move and return if unsure remove and clean i agree with kevin 300bar should be enough to start and there is normally p1000 listed is the immobilizer tail tail going off??

Evening Phillip,

If you google Ford Mondeo Fault code P1000, you will find some interesting stuff about a possible fault. I cannot remember the exact definition of the code but it is something to do with the fact that the ECU has recently been wiped of fault codes or the vehicle has not been driven long enough in "readiness" for a fault code to appear. I normally ignore it.

the AA recovered this car maybe they checked and cleared codes and thats why P1000 is present (not completed a drive cycle since codes were cleared) will check egr operation tomorrow i had already blocked it just in case, have scoped crank, cam, and number one injector all looks good, havn't worked out how to post capture yet any help with that appreciated
so i have a draw from the low pressure pump up to 0.5 bar on mityvac which i think is ok but only 4600 kpa (46 bar) engine turning over which appears to be the problem, i will scope the fuel pressure regulator, is there anyway of testing it manualy!!
i have removed it to check for debri im not sure if there is anything there it must be very fine debri checked with magnet no big particules

You won't generate pressure if the vessel is not sealed.

Hi Kev,

Agree with your point. But I, and assume you question the vehicle's owner prior to undertaking any diagnostic work to get a full understanding of the problem and any prior work undertaken. However, we all know that some owners are not (for whatever reason) forthcoming with all the facts.

Have we confirmed fuel in the tank and what it is?
Are we sure there is a fuel flow into and out of the pump?
External leaks are easiest to find, internal leaks are not that difficult, what test equipment have you got?

I reckon I sussed this one some time ago, I think the reasoning behind a cust not revealing all the problems is because they believe it will make the repair cheaper!

I had the same model in recently with no fault codes stored.It turned out the cam-carrier had cracked and the retaining bolts had pulled out causing a lack of compression.You should notice by the noise on cranking, if not take the cover off and have a look. HTH

I would have thought testing signals to components and outputs from, would give you clues.

ran in leak back test at first loads of diesel and air and then virtually nothing but all even amounts to each injector
did not sound like a mecanicl fault removed rocker cover and checked all just in case, all ok and engine timed up correctly
unable to test compression through glow plugs all siezed in and not working but had not been affecting starting
scoped fuel rail pressure sensor looked good scoped fuel pressure sensor correct pattern when ingnition on and when starting (digital pattern unable to tell even when magnified if its changing probably better if measured in frequency but i dont think that on me 3 series scope pico)
as the delphi kit is £600 desided to buy pressure regulator and try it just in case no changed as everthig i could think of tested fit new pump up and running fine
my only concern through this process was my snapon scanner if the converter kpa to bar is correct this car pump should run at 1600 bar 160,000kpa as in my original post with ignition on the post with ignition on ny scanner read 400kpa when starting it read 4600 bar, when the new pump was fitted it went up to 6000kpa before starting and when finely running 25000kpa which is only 250 bar so i think my scanner was never reading it right or the fuel rail pressure sensor is faulty the car goes like a rocket but anyway it fixed and running and ill have to buy the delphi kit

Hi Philip,

The Delphi kit is very handy, you will need two "kits" to get the most out of it (YDT 278 & YDT 410)

If it helps;

One bar equals 100,000 Pascals therefore there is 1000hpa in one bar and 100Kpa. HTH
