Hi Keith
Have you got any details on the venues?
Would a course such as this be relevant to today's vehicles, or should it be considered as a foundation course for a better understanding of Diesel system operation?
I am not a diesel man to be honest. You mentioned in another thread, that "I thought I read that old diesel system were very easy to work on"!
Old diesels were pretty much a closed shop for me & they were usually farmed out to a diesel specialist. However, common rail technology has opened up many more avenues for sure.
When I look back at my early days, I am glad that I experienced the carburettor, plugs, points & condenser era. To learn the relationships of each subject has stood me in good stead. Often I can draw upon the experiences from the old days (not as old as most of you "Old Timers" though ) & I often apply my experiences to the modern system faults that I see.
I suppose Keith, that you experience something similar in the diesel market.
Cheers for now.
Dave

Having attended all the Bosch courses over the past couple of years I would say that although a little out of date the VSD12 course is worth doing. Very good grounding for the other courses, on more modern systems. Not quite as hands on as some of the other courses but good nonetheless.

Dave As Steve has said a good grounding course. As for someone at your level I think bits would be of interest but some parts may be to basic. The common rail course has been updated and may be of more interest to you. I only mainly have experience of Denham as a venue and only mainly the diesel instructors (did one with Ed Kapps). The only one I did do outside was the vsd 12 (a while ago) with Steve Waters.
Common rail and the 16 pin plug has made diesel more accessible (that is the trouble sometimes), but I still get several phone calls for advise on edc ve systems, so there is still a call for VSD 12 in my mind.
As for drawing experiences from old systems, yes I do this all the time (basics) because under all of this emission level driven electronics there is still the same mechanical components.

Hello Keith, Dave and Steve,
As someone who is delivering both The VSD 12 & 15 courses this year for Bosch I can vouch for both.
the first gives a good understanding of rotary mechanical and EDC controlled systems, including the basics of diesel injection, and the second explains Common rail systems and how they differ from the normal systems used up to that point in time.
As Keith has said, alot of the questions regularly asked on here are down to a lack of basic system knowledge.
Regards mark
PS. look on the Bosch website for dates or ask me and I will try to help.
