Year of Manufacture *: 2002
Engine Size and Code *: 3.0D

hi need some help with this one car will not start got 2 fault code (09f6 rail-pressure monitoring on engine start) & (3505 glow-plug system) on live data when cranking pre - supply pressure 4.04, pressure rail acual & specified both= Zero & actual current rail pressure control vale= 2829 mA. so 4.04 pre would be to fuel filter which is good so both pump at rear must be working? but rail pressure which comes from main pump is zero what checks can i make? or possible causes thanx

Have you actually checked that the pre supply pump is running? Most common thing on these is this pump so I would check rather than relying on live data. I've found it to be wrong before.

Check fuel flow after filter, with the weather as it is i have had two complete non starts this week one was a volvo D5 and the other a peugeot both had completely clogged filters with minimal flow, the fuel pump relay on bmw vehicles are quite poor so do check as mentioned that the pump/pumps do actually run they can be quite intermittent, hope this helps Andy

Having confirmed that you have 4 bar coming from the filter,
I'd do a quick injector leak off test and see if that shows anything
You could also confirm that you have 0.5v on the centre wire of the rail pressure sensor with KOEO and see what that rises to on cranking.

As the leak off pipes are relatively accessible then this should be your first port of call
The hp pump can be in good condition but will never produce pressure if there is sufficient leakage from the system.

As mentioned next thing I would do is a leak off test. Assuming fuel is getting to the injectors. Also, check the metering valve.

hi,not read all posts, did one yesturday, remove return pipes from injectors, place leak off pipe into container turn ignition on,any injectors that leak over are faulty,it only needs to be a small amount, this test is all you need to sort bad/long starts, you can,if you have a leak off kit do it properly..when inlet is off glow plugs are easy to get to to test.
