Vauxhall Combo 1.3 CDTi 2007 - LOS mode, fault codes P0108 & P0704 - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2007
Engine Size and Code *: 1300cc CDTI
( Optional ) Scanner Used: ACR4 G2
( Optional) Fault Codes: 0108 and 0704

Evening All,

I was asked to have a "quick look" at this vehicle whilst attending another at a local garage.

Vehicle drives OK except that it goes into limp mode on occasions and will clear itself once the ignition is switched off then on. Tried to code read it and came up with 0108 and 0704 both unknown. Not sure what engine size this is but garage reckons it is the same as a Fiat Idea and 1300cc. Read it with EOBD protocol and no faults were stored. So would be grateful if anyone can shed a light on what these codes mean.

Sorry this is all vague. Garage bought the vehicle today for resale and was unsure of the engine size. Tried tinterweb and archives with no joy and SP help desk failed to return my call. Would like to point the garage in the general direction to get this thing fixed.

Hi pete
can you get any live data if so take it down the road and have a look at turbo boost to see if it is overboosting I have had a few sticky wastegates normally I will put the in 5th gear at low eng speed and accelerate apart from that think getting a scanner with better capabilites of this system maybe needed

Hi Pete,
The 0704 code I assume is a P0704 code and therefore equals clutch switch malfunction.

If the 0108 is also a "P" code then TIS2000 has no reference to it in regard to your supposed engine size.

Give me the Chassis number and I can help more.

0108 MAP sensor high input.

This on Pug 2.0HDI using Sykes G2.
Replaced MAP fault remained.

0708 Clutch switch. Dont understand this one.

Suspect sticky turbo causing limp home by not moving vanes as computer expects, hence odd codes.

First thing we have started checking on these we remove map/boost sensor on rear of manifold and get a mirror and look in hole in manifold .we have had them with hole blocked with crap in manifold
a very quick check can save a lot of wasted time
chasing red herrings HTH

Evening all,

Had a longer look at this one today. Cleared the 2 codes and took it for a thrash where it quickly dropped into LOS mode. Only one code remained which was PO108. This refers to MAP/Barometer pressure high. Due to the age of the vehicle, I suggested they check to see if it was still under manufacturers warranty as their first step. Tinterweb trawl came up with the following:

Turbo Actuator
MAP Sensor
EGR Valve

So, they are checking this all out and I expect to hear something positive soon which will be posted as a fix.

I have also ascertained the vehicle is a 1.3 and the chassis no. is:WOLOXCS2574351047. Also, although no EOBD codes were present on my 3 scan tools, I found it interesting to note that the Vauxhall specific codes were very much similar to those of EOBD. Also SP G2 does show boost pressure but because the garage was short handed, they could not spare me a tech whilst I watched the boost pressure on a test drive. Shame really because this would have been useful.

May I thank those who have taken an interest in this and hope to post a fix later.

Check for split vac pipework from the turbo actuator back.

Evening Carl,

They found that the actuator rod thingy was seized. Soaked with the good old WD40 overnight and with a bit of "gentle persuasion" managed to free it off. They initially thought the turbo was faulty before they looked at the actuator rod. Gives me a nice glow inside!

Hi pete

like I said in my previous post I have seen this a few times now and have unseized a couple my self I always find the easiest way to see the actual fault is to use a mity vac customers also seem to like to watch you actually show them things like this as you don't have to be to clued up on cars to see something is sticking/seized I feel just gives them a little bit more confidence in your repair

Evening Carl,

Thanks for that. I started to take an interest in diesels a few years ago when they began to get fitted with engine management systems. Being conversant with petrol management systems I figured that the diesel systems would not be much different and so it has proved. However, I am not that confident in the "mechanical issues" on these vehicles and am now too long in the tooth to start from scratch to learn about the intricacies of the diesel engine. Saying that, I am happy to learn as I go along by using the interweb and excellent forums such as UKAT. I can also call upon a couple of knowledgeable techs to render advice. I only offer my customers a fault code check and scan which they mostly accept and if I can help further, I will at extra cost. Most accept this before I start and I am happy to keep within my capabilities. However, I am learning all the time and now taking a deeper interest.

Concerning this particular vehicle, I am confident once I did the relevant research as outlined in the previous posts, I would have fixed this thing myself. However, as outlined previously, I was tasked merely to see what DTC's were stored so I can point the garage in the right direction.
