I agree that some investment in equipment can seem to be a poor decision (not criticising Launch as I don’t have one so don’t know what its like) but with training I think you will always get value for money. I say this because if you undertake any reputable training, at the appropriate level you will get a return on your investment just in being able to approach a job with more confidence having a better understanding of the system being worked on. This is not to say that you will not need help at times, we all do. In these demanding times it is ironically even more crucial to invest and stay ahead of the crowd and this in itself can increase the amount of work brought in and consequently charged for.
