Thanks for your reply! The way I have carried it out was -

Start SDD with the original ECU on the vehicle and let it carry out its initial scans, then close session and replace the ecu with the new one, then finally re open sdd selecting open previous session.

This then allows me to 'configure PCM' within the extras tab but after its completed it still doesn't stop the red led blinking and no crank. I've got in contact with LR Support in case I'm missing something stupid.

Totally agree regarding SDD being different, I used to think Ford took some getting used too....
