As James post above, just to add that I have seen these log the wrong sensor in the past on this engine code.

as far as I am aware VW's haven't logged this fault with just the ignition on since the days of the MK3 Golf?
Check the crank sensor is working, I've seen this fault log when the Cam sensor is okay but there is no output from the crank sensor (G28).
