I agree that the pump generating a predetermined pressure in a fixed timescale would prove alot of the fuel system to be OK.
I was assuming that the 'local ford dealer' had done this test, as you said, and that this test had failed and the conclusion by the dealer was to replace the High pressure pump.
I was simply stating that I would do more testing that was carried out before I spent £1200 of my customers money.
