You are of course correct in what you say. I advised the customer initially that the dealer was his first port of call, but unfortunately he has lost faith in them due to pre-delivery problems of the vehicle. Customer relationships have broken down and hence my appearance on the scene. Will advise tomorrow that he needs to bite the bullet and hand the problem back to them. I have left the DTC's in the ECM for main dealer to see.
