This one belongs to a mate of mine - I finally persuaded him to bin his MG ZR 1.4 and what does he turn up in? Another feckin' MG.
Anyway.... His first problem is that it's not got anywhere near the poke that it should have. It's also got a very harsh diesel knock on tickover and low revs that seems to come and go. It also was hard to start in the mornings. Again, intermittantly.
It's recently had a timing belt so I've checked the valve timing and the pump timing - all seems ok. I've operated the EGR valve by directly attaching the vac to the diaphragm and I can hear the engine note change so it's not siezed (but could still not be sealing I suppose).
There were loads of codes stored but, after clearing them and running the engine, the only one that returns is P1222 - Timing governor battery - deviation. Having checked the mechanical timing of the engine I'm not sure what else I can check.
One final bit of info is that there's a sensor on the end of the plenum chamber (near the camshaft pulley) that has no plug/wire attatched.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance - Paul.
