Year of Manufacture *: 2007
Engine Size and Code *: BKP
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Autocom
( Optional) Fault Codes: P0104
I expect many have seen this fault before, but thought it valuable to show that every garage should invest in a smoke machine to save themselves time and the customer having unnecessary parts being fitted
The customer had the AA out as his MIL was on, they pulled a P0104 and told him to get it to a garage and may need a new MAF sensor
The garage fitted a BOSCH replacement and sent him on his way, next day light back on. Took it back to the garage and they said it may be a fault part, but not sure what to do next (no scope & no smoke machine). They referd him to me
Quick check with Pico showed the MAF to be performing as it should. So out with the Smoke Machine
Smoke pouring out down the back of the engine. The pipe had rubbed through on a sharp fuel hose clip. Taped up pipe for now. Customer has had no more trouble, but is going back to original garage as it looks like MAF was not needed.......good luck with that I thought
Also a good example of not fitting parts on what a code may tell you, just the direction to look in
