Re: john j. tormey, brooklyn, ny
My Grandfather Thomas F Tormey had a bother John J. The father was John Tormey. He came to the US in 1869 and got married in 1870. The other children were Catherine, Mary, and Christopher L.A. Tormey. His wife was Cathrine according to the 1900 US Census. The NY state census of 1905 had John Tormey's wife and daughter both as Katie. The People doing the census had written everything in script as they asked questions. I backed into this because the US Census computer entry eventually made, was John TorNey because the m looked like a N. In 1905 when the state of NY conducted its own census, it has the same information, only with the correct spelling. I also think the US censor takers back then (1900) did not ask for spelling. Even a lot of the birth dates are estimated. The spelling on my side of the family is Kathryn, and most go by Kate, Katie, or Kay. John, Thomas and Christopher are easier to spell. I think the son, John J Tormey had a son Harold. He was my father's Uncle and was married to Winifred. They had a son and a daughter, John and Joan. John is alive and 85 yrs old and living in Glen Cove, NY. He is married to Barbara and they have 2 children, John J and Mary. Do you think we are the same line of Tormeys?
