Anyway, my other question remains: some people say that if this 4th Panzer Army was never separated from the 6th Army and have attacked the city together with the 6th Army the chances that Stalingrad would have fall for the Wehrmacht would have been greatly increased. Other opinions? Thanks, Dolf
Personally I don't think the final result of the Battle would have been different and that the Germans would have lost this Battle anyway.
We know that the Red Army commanders only reinforced the troops within the city with just enough men to keep as many as possible Germans divisions busy so they could encircle them. So I guess that if another Panzer Army would have been engaged in battle earlier most probably the Red Army commanders would have simply reinforce the 62nd Army with more men, still just enough to keep the German divisions busy and close the trap with Operations Uranus and Saturn.
