Texas Tech denied in its distasteful effort to retain gambling QB

I realize colleges are now mostly shameless in pursuit of money and success. But TT's effort to keep the QB who has admitted that he repeatedly gambled on sports, including football, is absurd.

Tech should have kicked him off the team and left it at that.

I suppose it's a bit hard for greedy schools and networks to say no, considering I get pop-up ads for gambling on prop bets while watching games.

And of course it's funny how the loss of the QB changes the betting line on TT's chances to win its league.

The betting on and against his own team was too big of a deal

His agent now is blaming Cincy saying they knew and played him. He should shut up he’s making Sorsby look worse if he was caught and still didn’t get help. And I’m not sure Cincy knew more than he tried to log into Prize picks although nothing would surprise me.

Hey, I think today's gambling QB shouldn't be allowed to play, and I think one solution to this ""problem"" may be for NCAA members to go back to being NCAA members: this type of thing is not what college athletics is all about. Now with all that said: venue-shopping and all that is well beyond the NCAA of say, the 1960's and 70's.

Just find it ironic that UGa is the school leading the charge here. :-O

It’s hard to understand why he didn’t forfeit all eligibility, especially after students have been barred for one bet that did not involve their team or sport.

Part of the problem is they delay it all after the trial. There’s time to hold the trial.

LOL, just takes a lot more to get the other schools outraged: because they can admit to the idea "gee, why didn't we think of that??".

Marginally included is the idea that these days one TTech alum/fan will proudly say that he was the guy funding the QB; or maybe the entire team. Before, he woulda had to stay in the shadows.

he signed a 2 year deal at Cincinnati last year. the agreement included a termination penalty of 1M if he left after year 1 and went to another college.

he left for a bigger bag at texas tech. supposedly was 5-7M iirc. so, he was obligated to pay Cincinnati the 1M. he hadnt' done so, claiming he thought the tech collective was going to pay it (their position was he was to pay it out of the difference).

so, Cincinnati was pursuing a judgment against him. his attorney was essentially arguing that the deal was invalid under state law because it was pay for play.

so anyway, with his deal at tech likely voided by its terms (less any bonus on signing), does he go from potentially earning 7M to now owing 1M?
