Vance is too tied to Trump, and the center has clearly had it with the current iteration of Trump. Unless Trump turns things around in the next year, Vance will not be the candidate.

It may come down to what is needed more at nomination time. Domestic policy or Foreign policy to determine which nominee gets the nod.
