The only thing I vet is that the motor carrier number matches what’s on the bol sent to me by the broker. My contract is with the broker not the freight carrier. What’s happen recently is a scam where the freight carrier accepting the load will then sub it out to another, less reputable carrier. Pretty much brokering the already brokered load. If you load one of those guys you have pretty much no recourse when your load goes missing.  Previous Message
I have represented freight brokers in the past. At their most basic level, all freight brokers really do is connect freight carriers with businesses who need freight hauled. At least in my experience, freight brokers do not really vet the carriers except to require proof of all relevant state and federal licensing. It is instead incumbent upon the businesses to vet the carriers.
