Days after a Skokie woman said she was detained by federal agents and local authorities at facilities across Illinois and Wisconsin, her claims are coming under heavy scrutiny — and the woman and her supporters have gone silent. Even the family’s attorney says he is no longer commenting on the case.
In recent days, federal and local law enforcement have strongly refuted allegations by Sundas “Sunny” Naqvi, 28, that she was held in federal custody for multiple days after returning on a flight from Istanbul to O’Hare Airport last week. The German company she claimed to be traveling on behalf of denied she ever worked there.
Meanwhile, a host of officials and political candidates who appeared at a press conference Sunday to blast the feds about the supposed detention of a U.S. citizen have also stopped commenting about her situation, which was widely shared this week...
...Naqvi’s story was promoted heavily by several candidates for higher office in the Chicago area, most notably Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison, who is a Democratic contender to represent the 8th District in Tuesday’s primary election. He said he was a longtime friend of Naqvi’s family.
Morrison, along with Sarah Afzal, Naqvi’s sister, spoke on behalf of Naqvi at a Sunday press conference that also featured family attorney Robert Held and several other congressional candidates, including 7th District candidate Reed Showalter and 9th District candidates Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss, Kat Abughazaleh, Bushra Amiwala and Illinois state Sen. Laura Fine.
“No one should need to have an elected official have to further someone’s voice when their constitutional rights are being impeded on,” Morrison said then about his involvement in the case...
...Held, Naqvi’s attorney, told Block Club on Thursday that he is no longer commenting about the case and declined to put a reporter in touch with Naqvi. He referred all questions to her sister, Afzal.
On Friday morning, Afzal maintained the story was true but would not answer additional questions on the record.

And, right now the Wisconsin county sheriff is suing her. They ought to sue her and the entire lyin' family (plus the lawyer, who probably lies for a living) for the costs incurred; then send her off for a thorough psych evaluation. Say, where does she work right now??
Can UIUC take back whatever degree she has? I hope so.
