He fought in the Cavalry in WWI. Spent the rest of his life farming in Western Illinois (Fulton County).
The two of us were hand digging a trench for drainage tile across a field and I was 16, perfectly fit and wearing shorts, and a t-shirt. He is wearing overalls, a long sleeved shirt and of course his hat. I'm sweating buckets and he is not even breaking a sweat. He would have been around 77 at that time.
He didn't believe we landed on the moon. He thought it was all staged.
