At a carnival / amusement park, the place had a radar gun. You threw from a flat concrete surface. Come close enough to predicting your speed, you win. I did. I think it was upper 40s.
I had no ego involved where I would fling it at top speed to see what I'd get. Guns were rare then. Instead I just threw with a reasonable motion where I felt under control.
