The Sea Merchant, a seafood restaurant, opened there in 1976, and was acquired by John Schmitt and Ernie Horvath in 1987. Ned Kelly's drew its name from a figure in Australian folklore who lived in the late 1800s. Gurujal said the restaurant enjoyed an increase in sales after it banned smoking two years ago. "Our problem is our inability to keep up with steak prices," he said. "We've always served prime steaks, the most expensive you could buy, and this year we made a conscious decision to discontinue prime and go to healthier all-natural steak."
