After being released by latics in 1962, he played 2 full seasons for Tonbridge Angels in the Southern league. Probably equivalent to National League South now. Scoring 54 goals in 95 appearances for them. Maintaining his record of better than a goal every other game.

Then officially retired at the age of 31 at the end of 1964/65 season. Injury having prevented him from making a single first team appearance during his 3rd season there.
