
One player in particular got my attention if only for the fact that he had a very strange career.
I think that the lord of Bolton manor will possibly remember Alan Shackleton.
Between 1954 and 1960 he played for Burnley,Leeds and Everton who were all in the top flight at the time.
In total he played 87 games for the three clubs and scored 44 goals.
He then dropped into none league for a year before joining Latics at the still young age of 27.
He only played ten games for us scoring seven goals before being dropped in favour of Bert Lister.
He then dropped back into none league before disappearing altogether.
How we could do with someone with his goalscoring instincts now.
Sorry for the rambling post but what a strange career.
