Of course I would like to see us get Kieran Trippier, Ben Davies (Spurs), Ross Barkley and McAulay Langstaff. All likely to be available, but somehow I doubt whether any of them would seriously consider the sort of wages we could afford to offer.

Might almost as well have suggested John Stones and/or Bernardo Silva. I was trying to be reasonably realistic.

Some other suggestions: Right back Gethin Jones and left centre back Jack Sanders (both MK Dons - who may be looking to upgrade now that they have secured promotion to L1 - and both formerly Bolton). Another centre back I like - Jesse Debrah - been on loan at Bromley from Port Vale.

Midfielders: Darren Oldaker (Swindon formerly Chesterfield), Elliot Lee (seems to be out of favour now at Wrexham - been on loan at Doncaster).

I really struggle to suggest strikers who might be any good, be prepared to come to us and would be within our budget. But then I’m in reasonably good company there - so, obviously does MM.
