There is also a chant that we are the greatest football team…. hmm. We don’t currently play in blue and tangerine, seen many a meat pie but not any sausage rolls around before we get a corner etc etc.

You take things literally don’t you - but I don’t think even that song means he is seen as the Messiah. I would say that the vast majority of Latics fans were very dissatisfied with MM on his buys, tactics, formations and style of football - they were temporarily delighted that he suddenly turned that all around completely for the play off matches - but those significant doubts remain. And those fans remain to be convinced given his summer buys and the start of the season.

To be fair to him, he hasn’t been able to put out what his preferred 11 would be yet due to injuries and I’m happy to wait until then. I think we will be ok this season but we won’t be near the top (unless he pulls a rabbit out of the hat and gets an amazing striker in).

Fans are fickle but I think it’s entirely reasonable that they are both grateful to MM for winning the play offs and being unhappy with his performance since arriving.
