Spot on 55, if that is the type of formation Mellon wants to play then the crosses for the two big lads upfront need to be from the dead ball line or out wide and whipped in both high (preferably) or if low with pace. Not floated and not from our keeper or centre half’s. It has to be mixed up too, if a midfielder drives at the opposition occasionally they don’t know whether to stand-off or commit, anyone who’s played at Sunday league level knows the basics. I can’t remember any player other than Yoganathan in the last couple of years that runs at a defender and knows when to release the ball once it looks like he is be going to be closed down. Taking a player out of the game, sometimes two players when he’s allowed to get near the edge of the penalty area. Mellon has to amend his ways, stop Hudson launching the ball up to the front two because the ball doesn’t reach them and falls somewhere between the halfway line and the penalty area leaving our midfielders fighting for a 50-50 ball facing the wrong way. IMO. Mellons record is good in the lower leagues, because boot ball is adequate, it might succeed in league two occasionally too but that’s about as far as we are likely to get with him in charge. Hopefully this will be his last season here, I don’t wear rose tinted glasses.
