The reason you would want to use ammonia would only be in cases where you have stained the plastic with ink - like demonstrators. Even then, I've read numerous times to only use the pure ammonia that contains no surfactants, perfume, or anything else. That isn't as easy to find as I first thought, and I gave up on it after leaving a pet store trying to find the ammonia used to do fishless tank cycling (dear Lord, the rabbit holes I've been down with pen related research). You're only going to be able to get a dilution of Ammonia, and even then you would want to dilute it further like 10:1 with distilled water, AND soak the pieces or run them in this solution in a sonic cleaner ... sonic cleaners and the argument at to what hertz range actually does anything useful is a whole other rabbit hole.
So, as I said, skip it for now... and even if you did stain the plastic on a clear demo, I bet a good soak with something like a dilution of Koh-I-Nor's cleaner would do the trick, and wouldn't get you on a government watch list.
