NIGHT AND THE CITY has that strange situation where there are two "cuts"--the American one and the British one. Most folks have seen the former; being something of a curmudgeon myself, I prefer the British version. :-)

The US version premiered six days ahead of the UK version in 1950. Perhaps that's the best possible way to determine its "nationality."

There's actually a fourth American actor in the "upper echelon" of the cast: Mike Mazurki. But the Brit actors (Lom, Sullivan, Withers) have it all over the Yanks in the film--even Widmark.
