A curmudgeon only when it comes to Liz Scott and Glenn Ford😊. I made a top 20 or 25 film noir list some years ago on this site, and I doubt that as for domestic noirs that my choices have changed much. A great noir like Night And The City I have seen categorized as a UK noir, despite at least three Yanks in the cast, and one behind the camera, but if we do categorize this as the greatest UK noir, then Odd Man Out, It Always Rains on Sunday ,They Made Me A Fugitive and The Third Man are all in the group photo. Since then, with all the foreign noirs that have become available, one could compile the best international and US noirs, but that would be one hell of a task, so go to it, Don. It’s easier to say who the greatest basketball player of all time is – Jordan, and the greatest baseball player – Mays. I’ve watched many more of their great games than I have watched Vertigo. Most recently, the most perverse best of polls was the last one from Sight and Sound, which ranked Chantal Akerman’s Jeanne Dielman, etc. etc. as the greatest film of all time. All that poll showed is that the demographics of the critics who voted have changed greatly over the years. Knowing what it’s about, I won’t waste the 3 and a half hours on it. I’d rather try to track down a copy of Killers Of The Flower Moon.
