The trailer did nothing for me. I am unsure what benefits an “intriguing racial twist” might bring to the material, which is strong to begin with, but I can go with the idea until the film-makers decide to compound the twist by making the romance both cross-racial and double-minority, while apparently also staying in period. It's like Bridgerton or Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood, which were both 2020 projects. Throw brickbats at me if you will, but I think that moment has passed, and thus The Actor already seems pre-dated by basic casting decisions. I almost didn’t say this, in fact I added the second paragraph after the initial posting. Then I decided, what the heck, it’s what I think. I hope I am all for opportunities for everyone, but ahistoricality and anachronism rub me the wrong way, and I would greatly prefer racial realism in casting.
