Possibly this has come up before. But on the subject of late 50s / early 60s B-noirs that deserve festival airings, a film that comes to mind is The Cat Burglar (1961). Gloriously scuzzy, cool jazz score by Buddy Bregman, plot reminiscent of Pickup on South Street, left-field humor, Shakespearean ending (you’ll see why). Script by tough-guy actor Leo Gordon, direction by Tarantino fave William Witney. Los Angeles plays itself (this movie is up there with Model Shop and Panic in the City as far as bleak 1960s LA locations go). There is a rooming house scene with Bruno VeSota that deserves a special Academy Award for Lowlife Art Direction. Has this ever played a Noir City?
