Noir in 1968
If we were to search among the Italian giallo and poliziotteschi and among the Eurospy genre, we’d perhaps find a few more, but the sifting remains to be done. By 1972, for example, Kirk Douglas would be in the very good Italian one “The Master Touch”. There are some below that are merely noir-tinged or even should be eliminated, like “Hot Millions”, “Fedora”, and “Red Peony Gambler”. I chose not to pre-judge these or others because tangential entries may shed light on noir’s condition and meaning at this juncture. I leave it in the good hands of others to figure out the state of health of noir at this point and where it stood in its evolution.
