I haven't heard the "man on dog" comment.

When you say "conservatism and politics don't mix" are you referring to a moral or religious component? The "religious right" movement, that really propelled things in the 80's does not seem to be the moving force today. I know a lot of folks, even religious ones, who are tired of the mix. I even add myself to that group to a point.
