Matchday programmes

Just watching the piece on BBC Breakfast this morning about matchday programmes dying out. Watford being the latest club, selling around 1,500 against Luton last season, which was 3x the number vs. Swansea.
I know it's occasionally difficult to find them - the Kenilworth forecourt is busier in recent seasons with all the TV trucks taking up space.
Honestly, I'd back Luton removing theirs, with more content being placed on the club's website as a result. The club maybe produces 3 items per day for the website? Feels like they could be doing more there.
Put more youth, academy and women's reporting on there. Use it to advertise club / matchday sponsors - transfer the information to the website.
The costs of producing one have probably escalated substantially in recent seasons. Is it really value for money, for both the club and customer? Probably not.
A lot has been made about lack of communication. Send the CEO's, manager's and captain's notes via email every match before putting on the website, even ahead of each game. Surely more people will see it that way? I know the increasing digitisation of life will antagonise older people (like everything), but perhaps other means can be used to get them access to information.

I used to spend ages reading my dad’s old programmes in the late 1980s - they were what really got me interested in football and Luton in particular. Would be sad if they weren’t produced anymore. got all of them in the PL season, otherwise get the odd one, especially significant games or new away grounds.

Call me an old codger if you will, but I'm still a fan of matchday programmes. Online digital info is OK - I even read it sometimes - but there is still something special about a good, well-written and attractively presented programme. Which is what I found in my hands at the Wombles game. I read it from cover to cover (I usually do) and reflected that it was much better than the comparable items produced by other clubs. Even the supposedly top-drawer effort issued by Spurs two years ago was not as good as what was on offer (for a very reasonable three pounds) at our opening game. Besides which, it is something I can look at again some time in the future: more difficult and less rewarding if only digital records are available.

The club already send out a preview email ahead of a home game. Often arrives in my inbox day after the match !

Like what, to your final point?
The programmes sell well - they often sell out - and are a physical memento for many.
The club wouldn't continue producing them if they lost money on them, I imagine.
If you digitise everything, where is the ephemera which is so much a part of football's fabric and history: its lasting, multi-generational attraction?
I am broadly in agreement with more content on the website, fed in after the game.
But would personally see the disappearance of matchday programmes (I usually buy home, but never away ones) as yet another step away from what makes a matchday special, for those who attend.
Obviously I am one of those “older people (like everything)”; rather patronising by the way, and from my separate post above I would not back LTFC not producing a programme. With regard to cost then unless any club is losing money by producing one why create a problem for those who wish to carry on having a momento for games they have attended, or for other reasons ? In addition, this could be overcome by increasing the price or making them more slim line.
The old black and white 2 page ones were greatLegend

As long as the programme makes money, even if it's a small amount then keep it going
If it is not, then, yeah, we should bin it. Or, at least, only produce one for big games or games that could decide titles, promotions, survivals, etc. Because they are nice mementos
And digital communication channels should be the default in 2025 anyway. They should be the main channels. The programme should now be treated as a secondary thing
I was a programme seller at the ground in 1969/70 (in 5th year at Icknield). We collected the programmes from the front room of a house at the top of Kenilworth Road and returned with the cash before half time, being allowed to watch the rest of the game for free. I was eventually fired for cheeking the boss who got angry if we carried the money in the silly blue peaked caps we were given to wear.
