Yes indeed, sent on was a turn of phrase. I am a bit of a rail geek as some on here will know, and absolutely I am not portioning blame on anyone as we don't know why they were on the same track. We do know that most modern signalling is done electronically with numerous fail-safes in place.

This is from the BBC live update page:
    What we don't know:

Which train crashed into the other: A Class 360 train collided with a Class 180 train. From images we have seen of the crash site, eyewitnesses and timings listed on train-tracking sites, it appears that the train from Corby collided with the back of the Nottingham train. However, this has not been confirmed

Anyone who knows the basics of rail travel can therefore determine that the 360 (the Corby train) ran into the back of the 180, especailly given that the tragic death of the driver was in the 360.

The image on that BBC newsreal at 22:50 shows the crash site via a long distance zoom lens. The 180 is the visible train and the 360 behind it (not really visible) It is looking north. From left to right the 4 tracks are:
    down fast
up fast (where the trains are)
    down slow
    up slow.

Live justly, love mercy, perpetuate generosity, walk humbly.
