    I tore my ACL playing football when I was 32.
    Never had the operation as I couldn't afford the time off work (was six months back then).
    Retired from football and took up managing an adult team then a kds team.
    I have been able to do everyday activities for most of the 30+ years since (including playing golf), but now have moderate arthritis in my knee. Still OK for short walks and gentle exercise but if I overdo it it swells up and I end up on anti-inflammatory medication.
