    This is second hand so I don't know exactly what the injury was, so take this with a pinch of salt.

    My former boss, while living in Asia, damaged his knee. Using his world class health insurance he flew to Bangkok, saw an expensive surgeon who wanted to operate. He had young kids at the time so took some time to think about it, not keen to be off the leg for such a long recovery period.

    In the meantime he visited a traditional Chinese doctor. This doc said no operation necessary, said the problem was due to tight thigh muscles. He prescribed massage instead.

    He never had the op, is now in his late 50s and regularly goes skiing, distance running etc.

    So consider holistic/Chinese medicine that will look at the whole leg structure rather than focusing on the precise location of the injury.
