The explanation is pretty obvious I would have thought. This type of chanting is part of the ritual of insulting the oppositions fans. As such it's only purpose is to annoy and maybe to make the singer feel good about themselves , it probably convinces them they are having a great time , enjoying the banter - little things please little minds perhaps. Clearly it has absolutely no impact on what happens on the pitch and is therefore utterly pointless. Unfortunately the club runs the risk of financial penalty for things which are essentially beyond their control but which also some people think is entirely justifiable in the cause of protecting the "freedom" to act like a cunt.
