    I went forward w/ filling the nail holes. Read on another forum that a mixture of wood dust & superglue would suffice to do the fill. 3 fills & I had the holes & surrounding area done. For a color match, asst woods can mixed together...so they blend in. Mine still came out dark. A dark stain would prolly blend-in better, but I don't want to go dark. An oil finish suits me.

    My 1st attempt at checkering proved challenging w/ the minimal # of files I have on hand. However, it's still better that it was w/ nails driven in! My file steered off the pattern in a couple spots So, for this is what it is.
    note: must get proper coutting file.




    I have a way that might hide the errors & make the dark spot less obvious. Might go this rout & give it some character. After all, the gun is 112 years old.
