I have brought my barrel into 3 gunsmiths here in AK and to be getting the same prognosis. Cut the barrels back 4 inches and thread in choke tubes. This could work however it would shorten my barrels to 24.5" and would cost upwards of $500 according to smiths.
They all are happy with solder holding up between barrels.

I have been thinking about looking for a barrel to match up, but am wondering if it would be as easy as sliding in a new barrel due to the way these guns were put together back then (i.e. Not mass produced but rather hand tooled)? Anybody have any ideas from here?
