    Bulge near muzzle Archived Message

I have a hand-me-down LC-Smith 12 Guage SxS (I will get the serial number later today) with a bulge 3" from the muzzle in the right hand tube. I have used this gun for years with this issue and always thought I was just a terrible shot with this shotgun. It was only recently brought to my attention that it was probably due to that bulge (I am a decent shot with my LeFever). I was also informed that that bulge could be a huge safety issue. Talking to the new gunsmiths in town, they said they could cut the barrel from 28" to 25" and thread it for choke tubes. I was wondering if anybody on here had any good ideas on what I should do? I like the 28" tubes for hunting ptarmigan in open cover as my Lefever has 25" tubes for grouse in denser cover. Does anyone know where I might be able to come up with a replacement barrel?
