On an LC Smith as on most American shotguns, there is no connection with the sears. The pivoting safety lever merely blocks the triggers from being pulled. Some European guns have another set of sears, called interrupting sears which will engage the hammer or the tumbler if the trigger is not pulled. They are primarily there to prevent an accidental discharge if the gun is dropped, and the safety still only blocks movement of the triggers.
